inside-out-sourcing Posted by bluepilgrim at Wednesday, December 13, 2006 07:01 AM
Inside-out-sourcing is what I've called the immigration problem. The work performed by companies who hire unofficial aliens would be likely be outsourced excpet that it must be done here, in the US, but it essentially the same problem
companies looking for cheap labor any way they can get it. There are some common threads with the immigration problem and Walmartization -- both cheap domestic labor and importing goods from foreign cheap labor. Jobs which could be shipped to Mexico often have been. Hiring immigrants IS outsourcing -- just done within the confines of the US borders.
This suggests the solutions are similar: fair wages and benefits for all workers, no matter where the work is done. That levels the playing field for American workers and allows them to compete fairly (and if companies must pay the same for American workers as for immigrants, then who would they prefer to hire?).
